Toyota has transformed a standard GR86 into a rally-inspired machine, reminiscent of the iconic Celica GT-Four. Starting with the GR86’s base, Toyota engineers swapped its 2.4-liter naturally aspirated flat-four engine for the G16E-GTS turbocharged three-cylinder from the GR Yaris and GR Corolla. To handle the demands of rallying, they added an upgraded intercooler and oil cooler, along with a race-spec ECU for optimal performance and durability. Although Toyota suggests there’s potential for more power, the GR86 Rally maintains the GR Corolla’s output of 300bhp and 273lb ft of torque – still a significant boost over the standard GR86, with an extra 69bhp and 89lb ft of torque.
This concept may never see production, but Toyota has spared no effort in honoring the classic ST185 and ST205 Celica GT-Four Rally cars of the 1990s. Finished in Halo White with a heritage red-and-green livery, it’s equipped with rally-ready red mud flaps, lexan windows, four-pod Wesem rally lights, and a twin-exit exhaust. Toyota even designed a custom spoiler for this racer, pairing it with white six-spoke Speedline wheels, now wrapped in 235-section Michelin tarmac-spec tires.
Inside, the GR86 Rally is stripped down for competition, featuring a full roll cage painted white to match the body, Sparco racing seats with red six-point harnesses, and a race-ready Sparco R330 steering wheel fitted with a Works Bell hub adapter. Additionally, the Works Bell Steering Wheel Switch Relocation Device (SRD) kit can also be mounted, allowing factory Toyota 86 steering wheel button controls to be relocated from the original steering wheel to the aftermarket racing wheel. Further rally-focused details include an extended shifter, carbon-fiber door panels, and lightweight fabric door pulls – each touch emphasizing its motorsport heritage.
