MOMO Porsche Prototipo Classic Performance Steering Wheel - Black Leather Black Spokes 350mm

In 1964, Gianpiero Moretti transformed the Formula 1 driving experience – at least from the driver’s seat. Frustrated by the oversized steering wheel in his own race car, he devised a solution: a handcrafted, small-diameter wheel with alloy spokes. With its thick, leather-wrapped rim, it provided a far better grip and improved control. By 1966, nearly every Formula 1 driver was using one of Moretti’s wheels.

His success led to the creation of MOMO, a name derived from Moretti and Monza. Then, around 1966, the Prototipo was introduced, allowing sports car enthusiasts to experience the benefits of his pioneering design.

The earliest Prototipo wheels featured the name prototipo engraved in lowercase, sans-serif letters on the centre spoke. Later, the name was painted instead. The spokes – either anodised silver or black – had two or three holes, which gradually increased in size towards the steering column, a distinctive design feature.

Moretti sold MOMO in 1996, but under its current owners, the Prototipo remains true to its original form.

Among Porsche enthusiasts, MOMO Prototipo is iconic. It is one of the most popular steering wheels for early Porsche 911, 912, and 914 hot rods – so much so that Porsche decided to create its own version, making it available to all Porsche owners.

MOMO Prototipo Porsche Classic Steering Wheel is a tribute to that heritage. Wrapped in premium black leather, it features Porsche lettering on a white background – an unmistakable nod to its racing legacy. The Prototipo lettering, also in white, pays homage to the white-painted prototype race cars from Zuffenhausen. Subtle black stitching completes the design with understated elegance.

Steering wheel comes with a MOMO Porsche horn button, made from genuine leather and embossed with a classic Porsche crest.
